WOMEN’S ONLY- Introduction to Handgun Shooting

Time: 3-4 hours depending on class size

Range Fees in Llano: Indoor $15 per hour/person; Outdoor $20 per day/person.

 

Whether you are new to handguns or haven’t picked up one in a few years, this class will start you on the path to proficiency with pistols. The foundations, principles, and confidence you gain in this class will become the basis for all your future shooting success.

Topics covered include:

  • Firearms safety rules and best practices.
  • Holster types, Range Bags and contents.
  • Ammunition calibers and types.
  • Basic features of Handguns- differences between Revolvers and Semi-Automatics, action types, slide manipulation, and safety mechanisms.
  • Care and cleaning of pistols.
  • Basics of pistol shooting- proper stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control.
  • How to safely load, unload, clear malfunctions and perform administrative handling of pistols.
  • At the Shooting Range: Use of different targets for proficiency drills and recreational shooting.
  • Qualification test: Each student will shoot a qualification target to demonstrate their new skills. These will be at distances of 5-15 yards.

This class is informative, fun, and engaging. The knowledge and skills you develop will build confidence in your abilities as a responsible pistol shooter. By the end of the class, you will have demonstrated your competence and accuracy with a handgun in the best way possible- holes in paper!

What to bring:

  • A fully functional pistol, either a revolver or semi-auto and magazine(s) in a case or holster.  If you do not have a pistol, you can rent one of ours for $25-$35 depending on your selection. Please call or email before the class date to make rental arrangements.
  • Ammo: A minimum* of fifty (50) rounds of brass case FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) ammunition in the caliber of your pistol. *Each shooting drill has a minimum and maximum round count. If you want to bring more than the minimum you will be able to shoot up to the maximum per drill (100-150+). We can sell ammo, for use in class only, in .38 special or 9mm. Please call or email before the class date to make rental arrangements.
  • Eye and ear protection. (Prescription glasses are acceptable) Also available to purchase if needed.
  • A notebook and pen. Smart devices are allowed in the classroom but not at all on the firing line at the shooting range.
  • You will need to wear close-toed shoes and avoid low-cut shirts as hot shell casings can fall into open shirt fronts.
  • We provide bottled water. You can bring your own drinks. Please make sure they are in spill proof or capped containers. Snacks are encouraged (as bribes for the instructor) so bring your favorites!

Student Requirements: You must be 18 years old to participate in this class. A valid State issued ID is necessary.
