It seems that more and more people are making the switch to Red Dot Sights (RDS) on their pistols. There are many reasons that Red Dots make sense for today’s shooters. The benefits include a broader sight picture, faster target acquisition, and increased accuracy (results may vary) among others. If you are thinking of getting a RDS for your pistol or already have one, this course will get you started with everything you need to be knowledgeable and proficient in Red Dots for pistols.

Topics Include:

  • Types of RDS (RMR, SRO, Enclosed Emitter etc.).

  • Different mounting options and best practices.

  • Zeroing the RDS.

  • RDS features and characteristics.

  • Care, maintenance and common issues with daily use of RDS.

  • THE KEY to moving from iron sights to Red Dot (focus, and picture) and 2 eyed shooting.

  • Acquiring the dot upon presentation (consistent and repeatable).

  • Presentation from varying distances (5, 10,15 yards).

  • Tracking (not loosing) the dot during recoil, target transitions and reloads.

  • The absolute importance of Back Up Iron Sights BUIS.

This course includes at least one hour in a classroom and the rest of the time at the shooting range. This is a live fire oriented course. You will be shooting many drills to increase your skill and precision. When available (depending on shooting range selected) you will also be shooting steel targets at various safe distances. You will be given “homework” to help you continue to exercise your new skills and improve them for the next level.

We provide targets and bottled water.

You will need to bring:

Handgun– Revolver or Semi Auto with RDS attached and a rough zero attained. If you have a back up pistol with a RDS bring it also. Malfunctions happen so a spare is always best.

Ammunition– Factory brass new/reload, FMJ preferred, no steel cased or hand loads.

This course has been designed to allow students to bring a minimum of 150 rounds. This helps save you money on training. You may bring as much ammo as you want up to the course max (250 rounds).

3+ magazines or Speed Loaders.

Magloader is strongly recommended!

Holster you can draw from.

Belt magazine holder (not required).

Eye and Ear Protection.

Range appropriate clothing, shoes (no open toed) and hat/cap or head cover.

Bring any drinks you want. Please use bottles or spill proof containers. There will be a break during the class to get some lunch in town but bring SNACKS to keep up your energy and bribe the instructor.

Humor and Humility make Happy shooters so bring lots of both.

You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid state ID to take this course.
